ELECTRICAL VEHICLE DELIVERY – CATCHING UP ON THE TREND OF RIDING GREEN

The transportation sector is currently witnessing a significant shift from gasoline-powered vehicles to electric ones. This transition aligns with Vietnam’s commitment, announced during the 26th UN Climate Change Summit (COP26), to achieve net-zero emissions by 2050, heralding a promising era for electric vehicles. As a result, in the final months of 2022, several transportation companies have initiated the process of environmental transformation by integrating electric vehicles (EV) into their delivery and passenger transport operations, replacing traditional gasoline vehicles.

VIETNAMESE SHIPPERS TRANSITION TO ELECTRIC BIKES

Starting in September 2022, Ahamove, in collaboration with VinFast, has introduced an innovative transportation service in Da Nang. This pioneering initiative combines technology-driven freight and passenger transportation services using EV. The primary objective is to promote the adoption of clean energy, contribute to environmental preservation, and simultaneously enhance the overall customer experience and income opportunities for driver partners.

As part of this ongoing trend, on December 29, Lazada Logistics, a subsidiary of the Lazada Vietnam e-commerce platform, partnered with Salex Motors, a startup specializing in smart EV. Together, they are set to introduce 100 e-bikes into the Vietnamese market in 2023.

On August 9, 2023, Dat Bike, a well-known EV startup in Vietnam, made a significant announcement regarding a collaboration agreement with Baemin – an online food ordering application. This partnership aims to introduce e-bikes for delivery purposes. As a result, Dat Bike’s eco-friendly transportation service utilizing e-bikes is now available on the Baemin application, with the service officially launching in Ho Chi Minh City today.

EV PROVIDE A COMPREHENSIVE SOLUTION TO BUSINESSES’ COST CHALLENGES

Furthermore, EV transportation contributes to environmental conservation and offers numerous advantages for enterprise operations. Notably, their spacious design allows for the transportation of larger and bulkier goods, leading to faster delivery times and saving valuable time for shippers who would otherwise need to return to the warehouse for additional pickups.

To accelerate this growth, Associate Professor-Dr. Dinh Trong Thinh emphasizes the necessity for additional mechanisms, incentives and a balanced approach to energy sources to ensure the sustainable development of the EV sector. Moreover, tax incentives for EV adoption should be put in place, with a focus on supporting the construction of battery factories, charging stations, parking facilities and circulation areas. Additionally, incentives related to capital allocation for businesses involved in electric car and motorcycle manufacturing, electricity storage and charging infrastructure development should also be considered. These measures collectively foster a conducive environment for the rapid expansion of the electric vehicle industry.
